Healing by regeneration

In order for an injury to be healed by regeneration, the cell type that was destroyed must be able to replicate. Most cells have this ability, although it is believed that cardiac muscle cells and neurons are two important exceptions.

Cells also need a collagen framework along which to grow. Alongside most cells there is either a basement membrane or a collagenous network made by fibroblasts that will guide the cells' growth. Since ischaemia and most toxins do not destroy collagen, it will continue to exist even when the cells around it are dead.

Example of regeneration

Acute tubular necrosis (ATN) in

the kidney is a case in which cells heal completely by regeneration. ATN occurs when the epithelial cells that line the kidney are destroyed by either a lack of oxygen (such as in hypovolemic shock, when blood supply to the kidneys is dramatically reduced), or by toxins (such as some antibiotics, heavy metals or carbon tetrachloride).

Although many of these epithelial cells are dead, there is typically patchy necrosis, meaning that there are patches of epithelial cells still alive. In addition, the collagen framework of the tubules remains completely intact.

The existing epithelial cells can replicate, and, using the basement membrane as a guide, eventually bring the kidney back to normal. After regeneration is complete, the damage is undetectable, even microscopically.

Healing by repair

Healing must happen by repair in the case of injury to cells that are unable to regenerate (e.g. cardiac muscle or neurons). Also, damage to the collagen network (e.g. by enzymes or physical destruction), or its total collapse (as can happen in an infarct) cause healing to take place by repair.

Soon after injury, a wound healing cascade is unleashed. This cascade is usually said to take place in three phases: the inflammatory, proliferative, and maturation stages.

In the inflammatory phase, macrophages and other phagocytic cells kill bacteria, debride damaged tissue and release chemical factors such as growth hormones that encourage fibroblasts epithelial cells and endothelial cells which make new capillaries to migrate to the area and divide.

In the proliferative phase, immature granulation tissue containing plump active fibroblasts forms. Fibroblasts quickly produce abundant type III collagen, which fills the defect left by an open wound. Granulation tissue moves, as a wave, from the border of the injury towards the center.

As granulation tissue matures, the fibroblasts produce less collagen and become more spindly in appearance. They begin to produce the much stronger type I collagen. Some of the fibroblasts mature into myofibroblasts which contain the same type of actin found in smooth muscle, which enables them to contract and reduce the size of the wound.

During the maturation phase of wound healing, unnecessary vessels formed in granulation tissue are removed by apoptosis, and type III collagen is largely replaced by type I. Collagen which was originally disorganized is cross-linked and aligned along tension lines. This phase can last a year or longer. Ultimately a scar made of collagen, containing a small number of fibroblasts is left.

The process of healing a common incision involves an orchestrated sequence of events in standardized time, beginning with a clot at 0 hours, neutrophil invasion at 3 to 24 hours, and mitoses in epithelial bases at 24 to 48 hours. After this point, healing follows the previously mentioned procedure.

In a number of fantasy and role-playing games, the term 'healing' is used to describe the replenishment of a character's Hit Points, or HP for short. Healing is usually associated with 'white magic' in which 'white mages' use pure energy to heal a character by casting 'cure' spells to give HP back. A HP bar normally represents how much health a character has in a certain game and how much damage he/she/it can absorb before succumbing to faint/knockout/death etc. In games where damage and healing are numerically displayed, HP restored is usually show in green numbers.

Other forms of healing in games exist, and the aforementioned example seems to apply only to a specific genre. Health packs, or First Aid packs are used more generally in games to heal characters. Health packs can come in many different forms- syringes, icons or briefcases. Games differ in the way in which health is added to the character: some games require only the character to walk over a health icon to heal; other games require the character to physically administer the health pack contents to themselves (this is usually achieved by choosing a health pack from an inventory and selecting it).

How To HEal Barrack Obama ?

And, he delivered a stirring speech tonight in Chicago. He clearly recognizes that he will have to heal the wounds of a bruising and much too long (two years) presidential campaign.

In his own party, there are still many who favored Hillary Clinton and will need a lot of convincing to give their hearts and souls to Obama.

As for the GOP, well, in terms of the popular vote, John McCain got almost as many as Obama–enough to indicate that the divisions in this country still run deep.

Obama has his job cut out for him. Now is when we will all really learn whether he is the right man for the job or not!

It is very encouraging the fantastic change that you President elect Mr.Barrack Obama had been able to make, even before your overwhelming victory on the 4th November. You have been able to heal past wounds and bring the whole nation together. In your acceptance speech you made it clear that there is no black America or a white America , blue States or red States, but there is only the United State of America. That call had been heard and well received. To-day even before the Presidential Election was over you made history making the American dream come true.

As I write this you have 200 electoral votes, to 85 for Senator McCain, and going by numbers there is no doubt which way the votes are going and by the end of the day you will be the 44th President of USA.

In anticipation I Congratulate you President Barrack Obama, I wish you, and your wonderful family, all that is best and may you have the strength to see through all Changes you have in mind to make America a country of hope for all Americans without distinction, and hope for the developing nations of the world.

I being of Sri Lankan origin I cannot help but speak to you of the terrorism in Sri Lanka..

The Bush Administration did not understand the Sri Lanka’s reason to opt for a military solution to eliminate terrorism. The Government of Sri Lanka is not fighting a war against the Tamils, as those who take side with the terrorists may try to make you believe.

A group of Tamil youths took up arms way back in 1980s against the Government, claiming a part of the country to set up an Independent State for Tamils. For nearly three decades they terrorised the north and east of Sri Lanka, killing all those who opposed them including many Tamil intellectual, politicians, and innocent men and women mostly by blasting “suicide human bombs”.

The Government’s call for them to negotiate a peace settlement was rejected, over and over again demanding nothing less than the set up of a separate Tamil State. Having failed to negotiate, the Government was forced to resort to a military solution. The Government forces are carrying out successful military action against the terrorists, and is in the process of eliminating terrorism from Sri Lanka for good.

The forces that want to set up a separate Tamil State, including large numbers of Tamils who have settled down in foreign countries, such as USA, Canada, Australia, France etc, called the Tamil diaspora, help the terrorists, by providing them with financial support.

They accuse the government of attacking the Tamils, which is false propaganda to win over the sympathy of the International Community. The government forces are risking their lives in attacking the terrorists, avoiding the civil population , who are being used as human shields by the terrorists.

In that process the soldiers face innumerable dangers because of the booby traps and anti personal mines set up by the terrorists. The government of Sri Lanka has not neglected its responsibility to the Tamil people, and supply consumable articles and medicine on a weekly basis with the help of the UN Office in Sri Lanka. The Government is also preparing a package of political devolution to help the Tamil Community to integrate more firmly into the national fabric.

Please protect the sovereign State of Sri Lanka, without being tricked by a pro-terrorist Tamil Group in America, who has found access to you calling themselves “Tamils for Obama”. They accuse the government of Sri Lanka as carrying on a genocide against the Tamils. This is an extremely dangerous racist group, posing as wealthy Tamils settled down in America, working hand in hand with the terrorists in Sri Lanka. The terrorists in Sri Lanka calling themselves the LTTE ( Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), is currently proscribed as a terrorist organisation by 31 countries in the world.

We pray you President, to disassociate with the group who has found access to you calling themselves ” The Tamils for Obama”. Please remove them from your list of contributors for the election campaign. And before any action by word or action is made against the Government of Sri Lanka, please consult the President of the Sovereign State of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

* Cheating is not a sexual crime but a crime of betrayal. We cheat our partner out of ever really trusting us again.
* Unless you experience great remorse for having cheated, you will do it again. Remorse comes from being able to fully take responsibility for your actions, acknowledge the pain you have inflicted on someone who trusted you, recognize it is bad character on your part - and vow never to do that again.

5. Stay together if both of you are ready to forgive and re-build.

* Unless your partner has the willingness to begin the process of forgiveness, this relationship can never heal.
* By the very same token, unless you are willing to change your behavior and behave with dignity and respect. This relationship can never be healed.
